I use google maps all the time on my laptop. It's fine. Takes no
time at all to load, follows my mouse when I drag, and doesn't even
use up much CPU (the CPU fan comes on briefly but doesn't stay on).
Were you possibly thinking of Google Earth, the 3D app?
It might be worth finding a non-computer-geek friend or relative
with an older machine. See for yourself! You might be amazed.
