You got a point Paolo, and a good one too. But in retrospect, wouldn't
it be just like duplicating an "existing effort" like Ubuntu perhaps
and branding it as your own? If I were to choose between a distro
based on Ubuntu and Ubuntu, I'd go with Ubuntu if the only difference
is the name.
I suggested using LFS because you can make a base OS from it with all
the fat (gnome, etc) trimmed off and after you have done that, you can
now make that as your template in making your own distro. Clean and
customized just the way you want it.
BTW, with LFS you can install package managers too. That compile-build
is just for the base installation. When you're done tweaking with your
distro, and your satisfied with it, you can now package that into
something that would be easy to install for others, and not, as Paolo
said "re-invent the wheel".
I hope this project pans out. This is good.
In the past I was thinking of the name "PiNUX" but that would be too
cute ;) Kalayaan == Freedom. Nice.
